Damien Drew

Mary Mary is currently exhibiting photographic works by Damien Drew from his 2017 series Wabi-Sabi.

In Japanese aesthetics, “wabi” conveys an appreciation for simplicity and modesty, while “sabi” reflects the beauty of age and impermanence. Together, wabi-sabi evokes an emotional awareness of the transient and imperfect. Captured across Japan between 2006–2015 on 35mm film and digital cameras, these images document spaces touched by time; streetscapes shaped by economic decline, depopulation, and quiet resilience. Originally presented as diptychs, the series invites viewers to notice subtle congruities, contrasts, and quiet details that remind us that all things are passing.

Part of a 48-image series and photo book.
